Nata Sankirtan Guru Sanaton Singh's birth centenary celebrated

Imphal, May 31 2026: The 100th birth anniversary of late Nata Sankirtan Guru Konthoujam Sanaton Singh was observed today at Konthoujam Community Centre.

The programme was jointly organised by Guru Sanaton Apunba Hari Sankirtan Neinashang, Sagolband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai, family members, and associates.

Art and Culture Minister Khuraijam Loken, Konthoujam AC MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan, and JNMDA Director Pukhrambam Bilash led gurus, elders, family, and participants in offering floral tributes to the late guru.

Guru Sanaton, a B-High Grade Artist of AIR Imphal and Selection Grade Guru at JNMDA, promoted Nata Sankirtan at festivals worldwide.

He founded Apunba Hari Sankritan Neinashang to teach and propagate the art form.

Veteran artists were also felicitated for their long service to Manipuri Nata Sankirtan.

P Bilash recalled Guru Sanaton's contributions, noting that the dedication of gurus helped Nata Sankirtan secure UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage status in 2013.Dr Ranjan urged wider awareness of the Chief Minister's Artists' Welfare Scheme.

Kh Loken said Manipur is proud to host one of India's three cultural universities and called for collective efforts to further enrich the State's culture despite recurring disruptions.
