Cervical cancer screening camp held

Under the theme of "Don't miss a beat", World Heart Day 2025 was observed at PHC Samurou along with a Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) Cervical Cancer Screening Camp yesterday.
The programme was conducted under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases (NP-NCD) and jointly organized by the District Health Mission Society and the District NCD Cell, Imphal West, Manipur, in collaboration with Dr (Professor) Helen Kamei, Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, JNIMS, and her team, along with the team of PHC Samurou led by Dr Supama Das, Senior Medical Officer in-charge, and Dr Salim Khan, NCD in-charge.
The inaugural session was graced by Dr Ng Dayabati Devi, Chief Medical Officer, Imphal West district; Dr Akram Swamalata Devi, District Nodal Officer, NCD Cell Imphal West and L Nonibala Devi, Chairperson of Samurou Municipal Council.
A total of 143 beneficiaries availed services during the camp.
As part of the screening activities, 110 women underwent tests for cervical, breast, and oral cancers.
The gynaecology team from JNIMS performed two cervical polypectomies and three cervical biopsies for diagnostic purposes.
Dr Meghnath Angom, Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from CHC Wangoi, also extended his services by examining patients and providing appropriate treatment.
Free laboratory investigations, ECG tests, and free medicines were provided to the beneficiaries as part of the camp's comprehensive healthcare initiative.
Dr Supama Das, MO in-charge, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all the doctors, medical and non-medical staff, and the 39 ASHAs under PHC Samurou for their dedication and collective effort in making the camp a resounding success.
