Gangmei Phwam observes Tiger Day

Imphal, July 29 2026:
Members of the Gangmei Phwam Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AMN) observed International Tiger Day on Wednesday at its office in Macheng Namthan, Mantripukhri, on the theme "Roar For Tiger Conservation" .
The event was held in a humble manner and attended by Gangmei Phwam president Gaithaoni @ Mani Gangmei, general secretary Gangbilung Gangmei, Manipur state president Daiganglung Gangmei, along with other office bearers and central executive members.
Speaking on the occasion, executive member Ashinpou Gangmei said the Gangmei clan of the Zeliangrong community has been associated with the tiger as its totem since time immemorial.
He urged all communities in the hills and valley, and people across the globe, to protect and conserve tigers and their habitats.
He also expressed gratitude to the United Nations and other organisations for spearheading the declaration of July 29 as International Tiger Day, and called for collective efforts to ensure the survival of the endangered species.
