'Seed Certification' workshop concludes at CAU

A three-day workshop on "Seed Certification and Seed Law Enforcement in the Northeastern Hill Region", concluded today at the College of Agriculture (COA), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.
The valedictory function was graced by dignitaries, including K Debdutta Sharma, Director, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Government of Manipur; Dr L M Gamayak, Director of Research, CAU; Prof Indira Sarangthem; Prof K Nandini Devi, Dean, COA; Prof I Meghachandra, Genetics and Plant Breeding (Seed Expert), COA; and Prof N Brajendra Singh Director of Instruction, CAU, & Nodal Officer, AICRP on Seed (Crops).
Speaking on the occasion, K Debdutta highlighted that the Manipur State Seed and Organic Certification Agency (MASOCA) has been established but is not fully operational due to a lack of experts and staff.
He emphasized the critical need to enforce seed laws to ensure quality seeds are available to farmers, noting that seed testing is the foundation of agriculture.
He also highlighted the workshop's significance for Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, noting that effective organic and seed certification would ensure food security and quality seed production.
The function concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
