Luira Phanit (Lui Ngai Ni) Festival 2026 kicks off at Nungbi Khullen with grandeur

Ukhrul, January 28 2026:
The Luira Phani (Lui-Ngai-Ni) Festival 2026 was formally kicked off today at Nungbi Khullen village, Ukhrul, with traditional gaiety and cultural fervour.
Professor Ng Ngalengnam, Director, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Regional campus, Manipur, inaugurated the festival as chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Prof Ngalengam Zimik appreciated the organisers and villagers for conducting the Luira festival in a grand manner and for upholding the rich cultural heritage of the community.
He appealed to the public to understand the true value of culture and to actively preserve it, stating that culture stands for the identity, rights and future of the people.
Stressing the need for holistic development, he said society must clearly understand its basic needs, particularly education, health, a stable economy and good communication.
Prof Zimik also called upon the people to place God first in their lives, noting that spiritual grounding plays a vital role in shaping a harmonious and progressive society.
He extended his warm wishes to the people of Nungbi Khullen for a happy and prosperous Luira Phanit (Lui-Ngai-Ni) Festival 2026.As part of the programme, the chief guest distributed wheelchairs to differently-abled persons, hearing aids to more than 20 beneficiaries, and walking sticks to several elderly villagers, a gesture that was warmly appreciated by the community.
