The 14th Sirarakhong Chilli Festival is set to kick off from September 16 at Sirarakhong village in Ukhrul under the theme "Heritage of blessings".
Saying that preparations for the three-day festival are all set, the Sirarakhong Hathei Promotional Society has invited people to attend the festivities.
During a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, Wunaokan Waleng, chairman, Sirarakhong Hathei Promotional Society, informed that Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla will be present as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony.
In the previous year, 15 metric tonnes of Sirarakhong chilli was successfully produced while the production goal for this year is 12 MT .
He attributed the decline in crop yield to pests infestation.
At the festival, around 500 farmers will sell dried Sirarakhong chilli for Rs 1500 per kg and fresh ones for Rs 200 per kg.
The concept of the annual chilli festival is "a buyers and sellers meet" .
