Assam Rifles observes Kargil Vijay Diwas with outreach activities in border areas

Kamjong/Chandel, July 27 2026: Assam Rifles organised a series of civic outreach activities and commemorative programmes inborder villages of Kamjong and Chandel districts on July 26 and 27 to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas.

The programmes were held at Aishi village in Kamjong district and Sehlon and Kovang villages in Chandel district to commemorate the conclusion of Operation Vijay and honour the valour and supreme sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1999 Kargil War.

According to a statement issued by IGAR (South), the initiatives aimed to instil patriotic spirit among local youth, provide healthcare support to people in remote border areas and strengthen the bond of trust and cooperation between security forces and local communities.

On July 26, Assam Rifles organised a candle march at Aishi village in Kamjong district, where local residents and children joined security personnel in paying tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the nation.

The participants held candles and observed a moment of silence in remembrance of the fallen heroes of Op Vijay.

The commemorations continued on July 27 at Sehlon and Kovang villages in Chandel district, with around 130 participants, including students, village youth and community elders participating in the programmes.

As part of the civic action initiative, a medical camp was organised, providing free health check-ups, medical consultations and essential medicines to the border population.

A movie depicting the bravery, patriotism and achievements of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil War was also screened for the younger generation.

A poster-making competition on the theme of the Kargil War was organised for school students to encourage creativity and foster a sense of patriotism and national consciousness.

The programmes concluded with a Tiranga March through the villages, with students, local youth and residents marching together with the National Flag, celebrating national unity and pride.

Through the commemorative and civic engagements, Assam Rifles reaffirmed its commitment to community welfare, youth motivation and nation-building in the border areas of Manipur.
