Govt schools struggle: AIMS inspection reveals alarming gaps

Imphal, July 23 2026: As part of its ongoing campaign to assess the condition of Government schools, the Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) on Thursday, inspected several schools under ZEO Imphal West, Zones 1 and 2 .

The inspection team led by the AIMS president and secretary visited Sairem Upper Primary School, Maklang High School, Lamdong Heinoukhong Upper Primary School, and Mongsangei Upper Primary School, said a release issued by AIMS.

At Sairem Upper Primary School, the team found only two teachers- an In-charge Headmaster and a contractual teacher- managing the school.

Low student enrollment and shortage of teachers were cited as reasons for declining public trust.

The school authority also claimed that two transferred teachers have not joined despite transfer orders being stayed.

At Maklang High School, no students were enrolled in Classes 8 to 10, and other classes had an average of only 5 students.

The Headmaster said lack of proper fencing has led to theft of school property.

Lamdong Heinoukhong Upper Primary and Mongsangei Upper Primary Schools also face problems of inadequate classrooms and low enrollment, forcing multiple classes to be conducted together in single rooms.

AIMS said it will continue inspecting Government schools across Manipur and will take up initiatives to improve them.
