Training programme on 'Pulse Production Technologies' kicks off

Imphal, March 23 2026:
An eight day intensive training programme for farmers on "Recent Advances in Pulse Production Technologies for Strengthening Food and Nutritional Security among Smallholder Farmers in North East India" commenced today at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat.
The programme, which will run until March 30, is sponsored by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur, under the "Promotion of Pulses in NEH Region" initiative.
Its primary objective is to enhance the knowledge and skills of smallholder farmers regarding improved pulse production technologies suitable for the region's agro-ecological conditions.
The inaugural session was attended by dignitaries, including Dr S Basanta Singh, Head of Regional Centre; Dr Kh Rishikanta Singh, Senior Scientist (Agricultural Economics); and Dr N Anando Singh, Course Director & Senior Scientist (Agronomy).
At the event, Dr Basanta emphasized the importance of pulses for nutritional security and improving soil health.
Dr Kh Rishikanta highlighted the economic benefits of adopting improved technologies, and Dr N Anando outlined the training's focus on climate-resilient and low-cost technologies.
A total of 39 farmers from various parts of the State, are participating in the programme.
The training will provide hands-on exposure to improved and high-yielding pulse varieties, climate-resilient production practices, integrated nutrient and pest management, natural farming approaches and cropping system diversification.
Experts from the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre, and Central Agricultural University.
Imphal, are delivering lectures and conducting field demonstrations and interactive sessions.
The initiative is expected to significantly enhance pulse production, improve soil health, reduce cultivation costs, and strengthen food and nutritional security among smallholder farmers in North East India.
