SAHS holds 'Breastfeeding Awareness Role Play' at CHC Awang Sekmai

Imphal, July 22 2026: As part of World Breastfeeding Week 2026 observance, the Department of Community Medicine, Shija Academy of Health Sciences (SAHS), conducted a role play on breastfeeding awareness at the Community Health Centre (CHC), Awang Sekmai, on July 21.The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr Ngamba Akham, Assistant Professor and RHTC i/c, Department of Community Medicine, on the theme "Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems".

MBBS interns performed the role play, addressing common myths and misconceptions about breastfeeding.

They stressed the importance of initiating breastfeeding within the first hour of birth, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, skin-to-skin contact, and correct positioning and attachment.

Practical demonstrations using a baby doll and educational placards were used to reinforce evidence-based practices.

Speakers highlighted that successful breastfeeding requires collective support from families & healthcare providers, including husbands, grandparents.

ASHAs, Anganwadi Workers, ANMs, and medical professionals.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion and a pledge to promote breastfeeding.
