Road Safety Month marked across Jiribam and Pherzawl

The 37th National Road Safety Month, 2026 was observed across Jiribam and Pherzawl districts with a series of awareness programmes, rallies and welfare activities aimed at promoting safer road practices and responsible behaviour among road users.
In Jiribam, the District Administration, in coordination with the District Police and District Transport Office (DTO) jointly organized a bike rally on Thursday as part of the month-long observance being held from January 1 to 31 .
The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam Krishna Kumar, and was participated by around 100 bikers, including personnel from CRPF, Jiribam Police, and students from Jiri College.
The rally started from Jiri Bridge near the ILP Check Point and culminated at Irawat Square, Babupara, covering a distance of 4 kilometers via Lamkhai Bazar.
Addressing the participants, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the importance of adhering to traffic rules and safety guidelines, stating that strict compliance could significantly reduce road accidents and save lives.
He also emphasised community participation in spreading awareness and fostering a culture of road safety.
In a separate event, the newly opened District Transport Office, Jiribam was formally inaugurated virtually by the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla during the Re-commissioning of ISBT and inauguration of DTO Pherzawl, Kakching, Noney, Jiribam programme held at ISBT Complex, Imphal.
The inauguration reaffirmed the State Government's commitment towards strengthening the Public Transport System and Intradistrict and Inter-State Bus services.
Senior officials, including Superintendent of Police Prakhar Pandey, ADC Th Manoranjan Singh, SDPO, Jiribam, Noor Kamal Sheikh, District Information Officer N Bidyananda Singh, SDO Jiribam, S Sitaranjit Singh, DTO M Vikash, and other district officials, attended the programme.
Meanwhile, in Pherzawl district, the National Road Safety Month was observed across Thanlon.
Tipaimukh and Vangai Range sub-divisions under the theme "Road Safety, Life Safety", under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Mannaumching.
Awareness rallies were organised at Patpuihmun, Thanlon and Senvon villages, while road safety posters and hoardings were installed at Sinzawl to spread awareness among commuters and pedestrians.
Officials and participants also took the Road Safety Pledge.
As part of the observance, ADC Pherzawl, Joel G Haokip urged residents, particularly vehicle drivers, to strictly follow traffic norms, cautioning that violations would invite penalties as per rules.
In addition to road safety activities, the District Administration Pherzawl, in collaboration with the District Health Society and the District Social Welfare Office, organised a free medical camp at Senvon village.
The camps included cataract screening for senior citizens and health services for children under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao along with distribution of free medicines.
A community awareness and sensitisation programme was also held at Kangreng village under Vangai Range sub-division.
