Rural Roots Market inaugurated at Khangabok

Thoubal, August 20 2025: The Rural Roots Market, a platform aimed at enabling self-help group (SHG) members to directly engage with customers, was inaugurated today at Khangabok New Market.

The initiative was organised by the Yainubi Cluster Level Federation, a federation of self-help groups set up under the support of Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM),Thoubal CD Block.

The inauguration of the Rural Roots Market organised for the second time under the initiative of MSRLM, was graced by Khangabok AC MLA Okram Surjakumar as chief guest; Yainubi Cluster Level Federation Khangabok, Thoubal CD Block president Thangjam Rediya Devi as functional president; and Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal, Hannah Kamei who also serves as the Mission Director of MSRLM as the guests of honour.

The two-day market was inaugurated by MLA Okram Suijakumar, who cut the ribbon and inspected stalls displaying a variety of vegetables and handicraft items produced by SHG members.

In his address, MLA O Surjakumar underlined the importance of such initiatives in mitigating the socio-economic challenges faced by SHGs, especially following the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing violence.

He noted that the Rural Roots Market provides an excellent opportunity for SHGs to showcase their products, promote self-reliance, and contribute to the local economy.

The event was also attended by ADM Thoubal, Aribam Amarjit Sharma; Child Protection Officer Thoubal, Salam Robindro; DFO Thoubal Dr Leishangthem Jeeceelee; officials of the MSRLM, and DLOs .
