Joint operation cracks down on illegal stone quarrying in Tengnoupal

Thoubal, January 18 2026:
In a major enforcement drive against illegal mining, the Tengnoupal Forest Division, in coordination with the Central Forest Division and Thoubal District Police, conducted a joint operation on January 17 at the illegal stone quarrying sites of Wabaching and Tolen Hill ranges in Tengnoupal district.
During the operation, one Tata vehicle involved in illegal stone quarrying was apprehended and seized.
Officials informed that a Preliminary Offence Report (POR) will be filed in connection with the case.
Illegal stone quarrying is strictly prohibited under the Indian Forest Act, 1927, and the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980, and action is being taken to deter such activities that pose a serious threat to forest ecology.
Deputy Conservator of Forests, Tengnoupal Forest Division, Mahamuda Begum, stated that forest areas remain under constant threat from organised mineral theft.
She added that the successful joint operation reflects the collective resolve of the State machinery to safeguard natural heritage.
The DCF, Tengnoupal Forest Division, also acknowledged the crucial support and cooperation extended by the Thoubal District Police under the guidance of Manoj Prabhakar M, Superintendent of Police, Thoubal District and Central Forest Division, Mantripukhri.
