Imphal, August 17 2017:
In solidarity with the demand for making Wangkhei, Kangpokpi, Jiribam, Thangmeiband, Sagolband, Sugnu, Bishnupur and Uripok Assembly Constituencies as reserved seats for indigenous people and identifying illegal inclusion of non-locals in the electoral roll, students of TG Higher Secondary School under Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) staged a sit-in-protest today .
|
KSA has been spearheading the movement for making the eight Assembly Constituencies as reserved seats for indigenous people and barring non-locals from contesting in elections .
During the protest demonstration, the students chanted slogans “Announce the eight Assembly Constituencies as reserved seats for indigenous people”, “Remove the names of the non-locals included in the electoral roll”, “Translate the assurance made by the Chief Minister in the Assembly on July 31 into action” etc .
The students warned of launching different modes of intense agitation if the CM’s assurance is not put into action at the earliest.
