National Dengue Day observed

Joining the rest of the country, the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Manipur Health Society, NHM Manipur observed National Dengue Day 2025 at Netyananda Mandop, Yumnam Leikai today.
The event held under the theme "Check, Clean, Cover : Steps to Defeat Dengue", was graced by dignitaries, including Yumnam Joybala Devi w/o Yumnam Khemchand Singh, MLA Singjamei AC; RK Maipaksana, vice president IBSA Club Yumnam Leikai; Dr N Haraba Singh, MO in-charge, Urban Health Centre, Singjamei and Yumnam Mathang, president, Nityananda Mandop Lai Committee.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Salam Priyokumar Singh, State Malaria Officer, NVBDCP Manipur, said that National Dengue Day is observed every year on May 16 to raise awareness about dengue, which is one of the country's significant health challenges.
"A phase-3 clinical trial for a tetravalent dengue vaccine has been initiated in India, including in Manipur.
This trial aims to evaluate the efficacy of the vaccine in preventing Dengue fever", he added.
He asserted that the trial represents a significant step towards developing an indigenous vaccine for dengue, a disease that can cause serious complications, especially in children.
Furthermore, Dr Salam Priyokumar emphasised the vital role of the public in curbing the spread of Dengue and urged all to contribute in the fight against Dengue virus by strictly adhering to the guidelines issued by the department.
