Shija Hospitals adds fourth Smile Train Accredited Surgeon

Imphal, July 14 2026: Shija Hospitals & Research Institute has further strengthened its cleft care services with the accreditation of Dr Indranil Dutta, Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, as a Smile Train Accredited Surgeon in July 2026 .

Dr Dutta has been associated with Shija Hospitals since January 2023.With this, Shija Hospitals now has four Smile Train Accredited Surgeons - Dr Palin Khundongbam, Chairman and Managing Director; Dr Guruaribam Nilamani Sharma; Dr Nabakishor Haobijam; and Dr Indranil Dutta.

The Smile Train Shija Cleft Project, launched in June 2006, is a long-standing partnership between Shija Hospitals and Smile Train Inc to provide comprehensive and high-quality cleft lip and palate care free of cost.

The programme covers corrective surgery, pre-operative investigations, hospital stay, travel assistance, counselling, and a patient care kit.

The project also conducts outreach and surgical camps in neighbouring states and treats patients from Myanmar.

Till date, the Smile Train Shija Cleft Project has successfully completed more than 4,800 free cleft surgeries, reaffirming Shija Hospitals' commitment to expanding access to safe and quality cleft care across the region.
