MEELAL concludes Meetei Mayek Training in Bangladesh, forms Bangladesh Unit

Imphal, September 11 2026:
A 10-day free Meetei Mayek Training Programme organised in Bangladesh concluded on Thursday, with the formation of a new branch to promote Manipuri language and script.
The programme was held from September 1 at Manipuri Cultural Complex, Tetaigoan, Adampur Bazar, organised by Manipuri Bhasha Gobeshona O Unnoyon Sangstha in collaboration with International Mother Language Institute (IMLI), Dhaka, along with Bangladesh Manipuri Sahitya Sangsad, Manipuri Primary Teachers Samiti and seven other organisations.
It was held under Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup and the Directorate of Language Planning & Implementation, Government of Manipur to promote Meetei Mayek among Manipuris within and outside Manipur.
The valedictory function was attended by Langopjal Jayanta, president, Manipuri Cultural Complex; Ibunghal Shyamal, secretary, Manipuri Bhasha Gobeshona O Unnoyon Sangstha; MEELAL president Langoljam Nongmailembi, general secretary Paonam Thakaba, education secretary Maibam Indrajit and Patriotic Writers Forum secretary Rakesh Naorem as presidium members.
On the occasion, 17 position holders of a handwriting competition held on September 8 were awarded certificates and books.
A new body, MEELAL Bangladesh Masa Loishang for 2026-2028 was formed with Ningthoujam Shanta Kumar as president and Konthoujam Shilpi as secretary, along with nine other members.
Three advisors including writer AK Seram were also nominated.
