Oasis College hosts maiden convocation ceremony

In a significant academic milestone for the hill district, Oasis College on Saturday held its first-ever convocation ceremony, formally graduating its inaugural batch of Allied Health Sciences students amid a solemn yet celebratory programme in Kangpokpi.
The convocation, hosted at a local conference venue, marked the institution's entry into the region's higher education landscape, drawing academicians, dignitaries, parents and well-wishers.
The event began with a formal academic procession.
In his welcome address, Chairman of the College's Board of Management, Dr Thathang Vaiphei, underscored the importance of the occasion and lauded the commitment of students and faculty in shaping the institution's first graduating cohort.
He also welcomed chief guest Professor Dr Ginlianlal Buhril along with other distinguished invitees including retired diplomat Gautam Mukhopadhyay and entrepreneur Michael Suantak.
The ceremony featured the conferment of diplomas to graduating students, led by the Allied Health Sciences coordinator, with one of the standout moments being a mother and her son graduating together.
Academic excellence and discipline were recognised during the ceremony, with Kimboilhing Sitlhou receiving the Best Discipline Award, while N Marilyn Guite was conferred the Gold Medal for outstanding performance.
In his convocation address, Professor Buhril called upon the graduates to uphold values of integrity, continuous learning and service, stressing that success is defined not merely by academic achievement but by character and purpose.
He urged students to remain steadfast in their pursuits and contribute meaningfully to society, while also acknowledging the role of parents and institutional leadership in nurturing the graduates.
