Thoubal, May 10 2025:
Citing shortage of water posing challenges in paddy cultivation, farmers have appealed for the release of water through Thoubal Canal under Maphou Dam or Thoubal Multipurpose Project.
Fanners of Thoubal Nongangkhong, Ningombam Sabaltongba and Moijing are encountering difficulties during a vital stage of paddy cultivation as water has reportedly not been released in the canal for half a month.
Speaking to this correspondent, a fanner by the name of Waikhom Ibotomba from Thoubal Mayai Leikai highlighted that the paddy plants need proper irrigation during this growth stage.
However, due to the shortage of water, the fields are drying up and in some cases rats have started causing crop damage.
In view of the situation, he has urged the relevant authority to release water in the Thoubal Canal to facilitate proper farming and irrigation of the paddy fields.
