JAC defers Silent Mass Rally

Imphal, September 09 2026: The Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of AMTUC & AMGEO has deferred its proposed Silent Mass Rally scheduled for September 11 in view of the prevailing situation in the State.

Addressing a press meet today at its office at Babupara, JAC president Rajkumar Basumani said the rally was planned to protest the Government's failure to implement the 10-point Charter of Demands for State Government employees, workers, pensioners and family pensioners.

He said the JAC has been submitting the demands for a long time, but except for talks on July 3 and 6, no concrete action has been taken.

Following the talks, the Government had agreed to declare Saturdays as holidays for Government employees and grant 3 percent DA/DR, but discussions on remaining demands are still pending, he added.

Basumani also said about 50,000 sanctioned posts are lying vacant in different departments of the State Government, causing a monthly saving of about Rs 287 crore and yearly saving of Rs 3,444 crore.

If these vacant posts are abolished stating they are not needed, the worst affected will not be the JAC but the educated youths of the State, he said.

He appealed to economists, CSOs, student organisations and clubs to look into the matter and help protect the sanctioned posts.

He further said the decision to defer the Silent Mass Rally was taken to extend solidarity and moral support to the agitation launched by JFD and people of Manipur demanding that census should not be conducted until NRC updation is done in Manipur.
