Brainstorming on building by-laws held

A one-day brainstorming session on "Model Manipur Unified Building By-laws 2024" aimed at implementing comprehensive building by-laws in towns of Imphal West district was held at Leiba Khuman Multipurpose Hall, Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai on Friday.
The session was jointly organised by the Town Planning Department, Manipur, Manipur Architects' Forum (MAF) and Mayang Imphal Municipal Council.
Mayang Imphal AC MLA Kongkham Robindro, MAF president Geetkumar Nepram, Nongthongbam Benju, Asem Radhamani, Thoudam Pratap and Yumnam Jamuna attended attended as presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, K Robindro said houses have been constructed without future planning and encroaching drains, leading to artificial flooding with slight rain.
This is due to lack of awareness and non-compliance with by-laws.
He said evictions in metropolitan cities are not because BJP came to power, but to protect illegally constructed structures and encroached khas lands for future generations.
He appealed to public, CSOs, clubs and stakeholders of the AC to participate in upcoming discussions to prepare a 20/30-year roadmap for town planning of Mayang Imphal Municipal area to make it a better town.
He also informed that a training centre under RSETI is planned and sought public support for constructing a more prominent Municipal office building.
