Kumbi Development Committee condemns MLA's remarks on road repairs

Moirang, September 03 2025: The Kumbi Development Committee (KDC) has strongly condemned Kumbi AC MLA Sanasam Premchand for his alleged negative portrayal of committee members who are voluntarily repairing the deteriorated road stretch from Welcome to Kumbi Gate to Wangoo parking.

The condemnation came during a press conference held today in the presence of members of Diesel Auto Service Association, Kumbi E-Rickshaw Drivers' Association, Winger Drivers' Association Kumbi, Bus Drivers' Association.

Committee chairperson Jaya Khangembam said that on July 14, 2025, with public support, road repair work was initiated on the stretch from Welcome to Kumbi Gate to Wangoo parking.

She explained that the road, a lifeline for commuters, had been neglected for many years, causing severe inconvenience during the rainy season.

Large potholes made travel difficult, particularly for schoolchildren and those needing urgent medical attention.

Jaya recounted that on July 27, during a public meeting attended by local clubs, the BJP Kumbi Mandal president assured residents that the MLA would soon begin construction of the road.

Following this assurance, repair works were briefly carried out but stopped after reaching Kumbi College.

However, the MLA of Kumbi AC, during a public meeting accused the KDC of raising funds from the public without using their own resources and mocked them for failing to complete the work.

She stressed that the incomplete repairs were a result of waiting for the MLA's assurance that the road would be completed within two months.

Calling the MLA's comment "immature" and misleading, she said such remarks only undermine the sacrifices of the volunteers.

She further declared that if the MLA fails to fulfill his assurance within the promised time, the KDC, along with public support, will resume the repair works.

The committee also urged the MLA to refrain from making irresponsible statements that could mislead the people.
