Informing that there are no reports of any untoward incidents during the 24 hours general strike called by the JAC today, Imphal West SP Dr AK Jhaljit has appealed to all sections of the society not to fall victim of vicious rumours spread by rumour-mongers who are out to create communal enmity among the different communities of the State.
Addressing a press meet this evening at his office chamber, Dr AK Jhaljit said that all concerned should not take action against any section of the society without cross checking the fact behind rumours.
A minor, Bishal, who is currently under treatment at RIMS after he was severely assaulted by KRF cadres on May 12 was rumoured to be dead.
The SP said that Bishal is improving and he is now shifted from Surgery Ward to Special Ward Room no D- 11 at RIMS.
Acting on the information furnished by Bishal on May 12 after he was brought to Imphal for treatment, Imphal West and Imphal East Commando team launched a search operation in the intervening night of May 12 and May 13 and collected the dead bodies.
Later on May 13, the Commando team arrested the KRF cadres who were behind the killing of those labourers from Thingsat village, he added.
He further asserted that all the accused are now under police custody and a case has been registered against them at Saikul PS.
As suggested by higher authorities, a Special Investigation Team or other capable investigating units would probe the case.
He added that the law will take its course and the State Government is ready to take up all the necessary steps to punish the culprits.
The concerned authorities are ready to furnish the demands placed by the JAC, he said that a logical conclusion has been brought and there is no need to protest further to create communal hatred amongst the people.
Further, he said that there are no reports of any untoward incidents in the 24 hours general strike called by the JAC.
When enquired about reports of any incidents in Senapati district, he clarified that there are no reports of any such incidents and 40 labourers who came from IT road, Kangpokpi from Senapati have reached Imphal this morning.
Regarding the indefinite curfew clamped in Patsoi areas and Kangchup area of Imphal West district, Jhalajit said that with the current improvement in the law and order situation of Patsoi and surrounding areas, the curfew may soon be relaxed.
Later he urged the people to restrain from any action which could cause communal flare up.
