Imphal, August 28 2025:
Transgender activist Malem Thongam has written a letter to the President of India seeking permission to undertake a bicycle journey from Delhi to Imphal under the banner "To Restore Peace and Harmony in Manipur".
In the letter, Malem appreciated the sincere and relentless efforts of the Government to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.
He also expressed faith that under the leadership of the President, the aspirations of the people of Manipur for lasting peace will continue to be upheld.
"In this regard, I wish to contribute in my own humble way towards spreading the message of peace.
Under the banner 'To Restore Peace and Harmony in Manipur', I propose to undertake a bicycle journey from Delhi to Imphal.
This journey is intended to draw the attention of the people across different states of India and to seek their support for restoring lasting peace in Manipur", he added.
He also asserted that along the route, he will interact with people of diverse communities, sharing the message of unity, harmony, and non-violence.
The transgender activist recounted that since February 2024, he has been actively engaged in peaceful campaigns and democratic expressions in Delhi and elsewhere under the same banner.
"This proposed journey is a continuation of those efforts.
I respectfully request your kind permission and support to ensure that no hindrance is placed in my passage from Delhi to Imphal while carrying out this peaceful initiative", he added.
Malem Thongam further expressed hope that this effort, though small, will inspire many to join in the cause of peace and harmony in Manipur.
