Thoubal, May 27 2026:
A one-day farmers' training-cum-machinery and seed distribution programme was held today at Langathel Keithel Bamon Mandop under the joint initiative of the Agriculture Department and the United Farmers' Club, Langathel.
The programme was attended by chairman of the Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891, Martyrs and Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak, Manipur, Joychandra Konthoujam; District Agriculture Officer, Thoubal, RK Umakanta; Langathel Gram Panchayat chairperson T Tomba; and Agriculture Officer, HQ, RK Nganba as presidium members.
During the training session, Seed Analyst of the Agriculture Department, Kh Nimaichand, provided detailed guidance to farmers on peanut cultivation techniques and methods to improve productivity and generate higher income through scientific farming practices.
As part of the programme, the Agriculture Department distributed Mini Rice Mills, Knapsack Sprayers and peanut seeds to selected beneficiaries from Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
Speaking on the occasion, Joychandra Konthoujam lauded the initiative undertaken under the leadership of the Director of the Agriculture Department, stating that such programmes could play a significant role in strengthening society and improving livelihoods if implemented effectively.
He stressed that the agricultural machinery and equipment distributed free of cost by the Government should be utilised properly by the beneficiaries so that tangible success and positive change could be achieved in the farming sector.
He further stated that if such benefits are extended to genuine farmers who are willing to work but lack proper livelihood opportunities, Manipur could witness substantial transformation in the agricultural sector.
