Afforestation drive in Kamjong promotes sustainable living

A tree plantation drive was organised today at Sorde Village in Kamjong District, bringing together local residents, school students and personnel of Assam Rifles in a collective effort to promote ecological awareness and sustainable living.
According to a release issued by the IGAR (South), the initiative, led by the Shangshak Battalion aimed to foster environmental responsibility while deepening civil-military cooperation in the border areas of Manipur.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers and students of the local school, who joined hands with 35 personnel from Assam Rifles to plant a total of 250 saplings of indigenous species.
The drive was conducted with a focus on afforestation and ecological balance, encouraging the younger generation to take active interest in protecting and nurturing their natural surroundings.
The plantation activity unfolded in a spirit of collaboration and shared purpose, with community members expressing appreciation for the Force's continued engagement in developmental and peoplecentric initiatives.
The presence of school children added a vibrant dimension to the event, as they interacted with troops and learned about the long-term benefits of afforestation and biodiversity conservation.
