Path closure sparks tension

Imphal, May 24 2025: Tension erupted at Changangei Uchekon under Lamphel police station due to the alleged closure of a path/entryway affecting over 10 families today, but timely police intervention prevented the situation from escalating.

The incident took place at around 1.30 pm.

A Changangei Uchekon resident said a narrow lane beside Kia Motors has long served as a path, but disputes emerged after the store owner bought adjacent land and challenged the path's use.

He also said that a Court case regarding the path has been ongoing for over 15 years.

He stated that the Court ruled in favor of the Kia Motors store on May 3, and the locals have subsequently filed an appeal against the judgment.

Saying that efforts to fence the path are underway, he added that tension erupted today when representatives of Kia Motors, Imphal, accompanied by Lamphel police, attempted to forcefully erect the fence.

He stated that the SDPO and Officer-in-Charge of Lamphel police arrived at the scene, assessed the situation, and put in place security measures to prevent any untoward incident.
