Capacity building programme boosts farmers with improved vegetable seeds

Bishnupur, August 22 2025:
A three-day capacity building programme with the distribution of scientifically developed Arka vegetable seeds was successfully conducted today at the training hall of KVK-Bishnupur district, Manipur.
The initiative, aimed at popularising high-yielding horticultural varieties, also sought to enhance farm income and promote sustainable vegetable cultivation in Bishnupur district.
The seeds, provided by ICAR-IIHR under the NEH Component 2025-26, included varieties of tomato, brinjal, chilli, french bean, bottle gourd, cowpea, onion, yard-long bean, muskmelon, and ridge gourd, among others.
The programme witnessed active participation from 70 farmers, who received seeds of their choice after the training sessions.
Eminent experts including Dr Th Rock, Assistant Professor, Dept of Horticulture, College of Community Science, Tura, Meghalaya; Dr P Bijaya Devi, SMS-Horticulture; Dr A Tarajit Singh, SMS-Agril Extn; and Mahesh Maibam, Farm Manager, attended as dais members.
During the technical sessions, Dr P Bijaya Devi delivered lectures on improved cultivation practices of selected horticulture crops for income generation.
Later, the dignitaries distributed seeds to the participating farmers.
