Kakching, May 22 2026:
Aggrieved over the transfer order of the principal of Kakching Higher Secondary School, students of the school on Friday staged a protest by locking the administrative block and announcing an indefinite boycott of classes until the order is revoked.
The protest erupted a day after the Department of Education (S) issued an order transferring the current principal of the school, Naorem Nomita.
The move has triggered strong resentment among the students, who credited the principal for the remarkable academic progress achieved by the institution in recent years.
It may be mentioned that Kakching Higher Secondary School recently brought laurels to the Government education sector after one of its students secured the 15th position in the Science stream in the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur.
Speaking in connection with the protest Magazine Secretary of the Students' Union, Moirangthem Googal, termed the transfer order as "very unfortunate".
He stated that transferring the principal at such a crucial juncture would adversely affect the academic atmosphere of the school and the future of the students.
He further said that the Government should immediately revoke the transfer order in tire interest of the students and alleged that external interference, including political influence in educational institutions, must be stopped to safeguard the future of students.
Announcing the students' stand, Googal said that beginning today, students would boycott classes indefinitely until the order is withdrawn.
He also declared that all school-related activities, including new admissions, would be put on hold.
Joining the protest, Priyadarshini Nongmaithem, who secured the 15th position in the Science stream, said that while the school may continue to exist with or without Naorem Nomita as principal, the present improvement and academic atmosphere of the institution were the result of her hard work and dedication.
She said the current status of the school had been achieved through the principal's commitment and appealed to the Government to reconsider and revoke the transfer order.
Notably, since Naorem Nomita took charge as principal, Kakching Higher Secondary School has witnessed significant academic improvement.
In 2024, the school produced the State topper in the Commerce stream under COHSEM, while this year it succeeded in producing a Science stream rank holder, bringing renewed recognition to Government schools in the State.
