Imphal, June 21 2025:
Located only about 10 kilometres from Imphal city, the Sawombung Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Lamlai Assembly Constituency has been without electricity for days, and doctors are treating patients under candlelight.
The Primary Health Centre is a crucial healthcare facility for people of Sawombung, Pourabi, Yourabung, Pungdongbam, Sekta, Nungoi, Challou, Lamlai, Keibi, Phaknung and many others in the region.
Due to a problem in an electric transformer, the PHC has been without electricity for 4 days.
The transformer has not yet been repaired.
Emergency patients brought to the PHC at night-time are being treated under candlelight.
Without electricity, the PHC is unable to store children's immunization shots and many other vaccines and medicines in the freezer.
While lack of electricity has hindered most services, the doctors, nurses and staff stationed at the PHC are performing their duties with dedication, said sources.
The PHC is a crucial healthcare facility for people of the region.
The authorities concerned should repair the electric transformer and restore electricity in the PHC at the earliest, locals have said.
