Lamyanba Hijam Irabot honoured

Kakching/Thoubal, September 20 2026:
In line with the ongoing 130th Hijam Irabot birth anniversary celebration month, Irabot Celebration Committee Kakching organised a programme at the Library and Information Centre Kakching community hall today.
In connection with the event, floral tributes were paid to the memorial statue of Hijam Irabot at CPI Kakching Local Council office.
It was followed by a rally carrying the portrait of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot passing through Kakching Keithel till the Library and Information Centre Kakching community hall at Kakching Phousupat Leikai where a public meeting was convened.
During the rally, the rallyists shouted slogans demanding the base year of National Register of Citizens (NRC) as 1951 and protect the integrity of Manipur.
The public meeting was attended by Comrade Th Tomba, former Minister Yengkhom Dhananjay; M Iboyaima; Y Chaoba and Y Satya as the presidium members.
Notably, renowned personalities and' leaders of CPI Manipur State namely former Minister Dr Moirangthem Nara; L Sotinkumar, Yaiskul, social activist Dr Naorem Bobo among others also attended the programme.
The attendees paid homage to the portrait of Hijam Irabot and spoke on the life history of the eminent leader.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Moirangthem Nara highlighted the significance of September month when it comes to the visionary leader Hijam Irabot as his birth and death happened in this month.
Dr Nara further stated that Irabot was compelled to become a fugitive in connection to the Pungdongbam incident on September 21, 1948.Subsequently, a warrant was issued against him which was later revoked 52 years later in 2000 after an appeal was made to the then Chief Minister W Nipamacha and Governor Ved Marwah, Dr Nara said.
In view of the significance of this important incident, Dr Nara said that it is imperative to recall the occasion when the declaration was made that the warrant against Irabot was revoked.
Thoubal
In connection with the 130th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, a commemoration programme was held at Khorirol Sanglen Wangjing today.
The programme was organised jointly by Khorirol SandokLup Wangjing, Ningol Khut Manipur, Wangjing and Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Thoubal District Branch.
Paying floral tributes to the portrait of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, discussion on his life and poetry reading session were the main events of the programme.
Sahitya Yokhat Kanglup Tentha president Kartik Maiba; Khorirol Sandok Lup Wangjing president Tongbram Babulal; Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Thoubal District Branch president Dr Yumnam Mahendrakumar and Ningol Khut Manipur, Wangjing president Khundongbam Gunamani Leima graced as the presidium members.
Delivering the keynote address, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad Thoubal District Branch secretary Ningthoujam Anjit (Pathou Mangang) stated that Lamyanba Hijam Irabot is a multi-faceted leader who strove selflessly and made significant contributions for the development of the society.
Terming his contributions humongous, Anjit said that the commemoration programme is being held with an aim to sensitize today's youth about the revolutionary leader Hijam Irabot and to instill his ideas and principles.
Speaking as resource persons, Waikhom Mani Girls College Thoubal Associate Professor Sengoi Sanasam and Child Care and Education Foundation Wangjing principal Sanjiv Nongthombam deliberated on the life and contributions of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot.
As a part of the programme, a book titled 'Marxis Philosophy Amasung Khorirol' authored by renowned writer Bhorot Sanasam was released.
Later a poetry reading session participated by more than 20 poets was held chaired by Saikhom Chaoba.
In connection with the observance of Irabot birth anniversary month, a mass tree plantation drive was held at Langathel Kangjeibung ground today.
Around 140 saplings were planted in the mass plantation drive which was organised by the Irabot Foundation Manipur, Thoubal District Branch, said a press note by the foundation.
