The District Transport Office (DTO), Senapati under the District Administration, on Tuesday observed National Road Safety Month along the Mao-Senapati stretch of National Highway-2 in collaboration with the District Police.
As part of the observation, red reflective tapes were affixed to heavy commercial vehicles, local auto rickshaws, taxis, Sumos, inter-state buses and wingers plying along the highway.
The drive was carried out by a joint team of the DTO and police led by Additional SP (Highway) Kaisungbou, along with IPS probationary officer Shivin.
The team also distributed pamphlets on road safety and safe driving practices, educating drivers on important dos and don'ts.
Helmets were distributed to two-wheeler riders found without protective headgear, who were also counselled on the hazards of riding without helmets before being allowed to proceed.
In addition, a poster campaign on road safety was also organised during the programme.
According to DTO Joseph D Sangkhil, as part of the month-long observance, the District Administration, CMO & DTO will jointly organize a free eye medical examination camp on January 22, 2026, at the District Hospital Senapati.
The camp to be held on the theme "Road Safety, Lives Safety" and "Clear Vision Saves Lives", aims to promote good vision for safer driving and the prevention of road safety, said Joseph.
He further informed that throughout the campaign period, the joint enforcement team will conduct checks on seat belt violations, riding without helmets, drunk driving, and other traffic rule violations under the Motor Vehicles Act.
