Thoubal, July 19 2026:
The Wangjing Tentha Block Congress Committee (WTBCC) held an executive members' meeting on Sunday at Paona Memorial Auditorium, Khongjom, under the chairmanship of its president, Shagolsem Gopeshor.
Addressing the gathering as chief guest, former Minister Moirangthem Hemanta urged Congress workers to prepare for the 2027 Assembly elections with determination, invoking the spirit of the legendary Khamba in overcoming adversity.
Claiming that BJP candidates possess significant financial resources and influence, Hemanta alleged that the ruling party attempts to sway voters through various means.
He appealed to Congress workers not to be intimidated or fall prey to such tactics, and called on them to work unitedly to defeat the BJP in the forthcoming elections.
The former Minister acknowledged that the Congress may have made mistakes in the past but asserted that the party had never functioned in the manner he attributed to the BJP.
He further alleged that another BJP term would bring further hardship to the people and urged party workers to remain steadfast and united in their campaign.
During the meeting, party leaders and workers also resolved to begin preparations for the Assembly election campaign of Moirangthem Hemanta, who is expected to contest from the Wangjing Tentha Assembly Constituency as the Congress candidate.
A two-minute silence was observed in memory of those who lost their lives during the ongoing ethnic violence in the State.
