37th death anniversary of L Mani Singh observed

The 37th death anniversary of Laishram Mani Singh, founder of the Laishram Mani Goura Sangeet Academy, was observed on Thursday with a Guru Kirtan and a symposium on the theme "Dharmada Marai Chaitharakpa" at the residence of Laishram Bijoykumar located at Thoubal Wangkhem Mayai Leikai.
The observance was jointly organised by the Mani Goura Sangeet Academy along with family members and relatives of late Goura Singh.
MLA of Wangkhem AC and MPCC president Keisham Meghachandra attended the programme as chief guest.
Director of Huyel Lanlong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association, Irilbung, and Padmashree awardee Kakchingtabam Sanathoiba Sharma graced the occasion as functional president.
Other dignitaries present included Social and Cultural activist and Film Director-Producer Rakesh Naorem; United Manipuri Association Central Zone, Assam and Uma Karnrup District Committee, Assam, secretary Laishram Budhachandra Singh; Laishram Mani Goura Sangeet Academy principal and Kala Bhushan awardee Naorem Gulap Singh; and president of the academy, Moirangthem Narahari Singh, who attended as guests of honour.
During the programme, the gathering led by the dignitaries paid floral tributes and performed Guru Kirtan in honour of the late pioneers in the field of pung, eshei, lairik haiba-thiba, and jagoi.
Later, a symposium on "Dharmana Marai Chaitharakpa" was held, with National awardee Laishram Bijoy serving as moderator and Manipuri Sumang Lila Lifetime Achievement award recipient Yumlembam Gourdash Singh as the speaker.
