State Level Convention of Central Trade Unions held in Imphal

A State Level Convention of Central Trade Unions was held today at Irabot Bhavan, organised jointly by the Coordinating Body of Trade Unions (AITUC, INTUC, CITU, TUCC, UTUC, Loumi Lup and Loumi Marup).

Speaking at the convention, L Sotinkumar said the convention was held in the backdrop of the National Convention of Central Trade Unions scheduled on July 29 at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi, to demand the rights and entitlements of workers and farmers.
He said trade unions have been staging sustained protests against the Union Government's corporate-friendly policies that ignore the livelihood of the people.
The key demands ahead of the July 29 convention include immediate free movement on National Highways, withdrawal of the Armed Forces, and a political solution to the Manipur crisis without compromising the State's unity and integrity.
The convention also demanded that the Centre immediately stop privatization of banks, insurance, LIC, postal services, BSNL, and airports, and instead strengthen the public sector.
Other demands include implementation of the Old Pension Scheme, scrapping of the New Education Policy, a minimum wage of Rs 26,000 per month for workers, and rollback of the 4 Labour Codes.
Leaders urged workers to make the July 29 National Convention a success to protect workers' unity.
