SBI Thoubal organises Gram Choupal programme at Khongjom Bazar

Thoubal Branch on Tuesday organised a comprehensive "Gram Choupal" programme at Khongjom Bazar Community Hall in Thoubal district, aimed at identifying grassroots-level issues and promoting financial awareness and inclusion among the local community.
The programme witnessed active participation of over 70 local residents, reflecting strong public interest in banking, financial literacy, and government-supported welfare initiatives.
The event was attended by Dr Meitram Uttam Luwang, Lead District Manager (LDM), Thoubal; Khaidem Rusobanta Singh, Manager, RMRU, SBI RBO Imphal West; Sajid Abil, Deputy Manager and Field Officer, SBI Thoubal; Asem Marshida Chanu, Centre Manager, CRISIL-CFL, Thoubal; and local representative Heikrujam Bijoykumar Singh.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Meitram Uttam Luwang elaborated on the importance of financial literacy in achieving comprehensive financial inclusion.
He highlighted how financial awareness empowers citizens to effectively access and utilise banking services and government-supported financial schemes.
Participants were sensitised on various banking products and schemes relevant to the common public.
Detailed guidance was provided on documentation required for opening bank accounts, along with information on government-supported microinsurance and micro-pension schemes such as PMSBY, PMJJBY, and Atal Pension Yojana (APY).
Loan facilities for farmers, street vendors, and small entrepreneurs - including Kisan Credit Card (KCC), PM SVANidhi, and MUDRA loans - were explained in detail, covering eligibility criteria, documentation, and procedural aspects.
The programme also covered Central Government-sponsored subsidy schemes such as PM Vishwakarma, PMEGP, PMFME, and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, highlighting subsidy components, loan structures and applicable interest rates.
Participants were further encouraged to avail benefits under tire Chief Minister's Employment Generation Scheme (CMESS).
The programme concluded with an interactive grievance-redressal session, during which participants' queries and concerns were addressed on the spot.
Information regarding the RBI Integrated Ombudsman Scheme was also disseminated to enhance awareness of formal grievanceresolution mechanisms.
It was further announced that similar Gram Choupal programmes will be organised at Samushang Santipur, Imphal West District on December 18 by SBI Mayang Imphal Branch, and at Thinungei, Bishnupur District on December 20 by SBI Ningthoukhong Branch.
The general public has been encouraged to actively participate in these programmes to benefit from the initiatives aimed at inclusive and sustainable financial empowerment.
