Ukhrul, July 15 2025:
The MGNREGS Welfare Association Committee of Ukhrul (MWACU) has lodged a formal complaint with the State Employment Commissioner Dept of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj regarding the non-release of Material Component (MC) funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantees Schemes(MGNREGS).
The funds have reportedly been withheld for three consecutive financial years, affecting multiple Gram Sabhas and villages across Ukhrul district.
Speaking to the media, MWACU president S Leishishang expressed disappointment over the continued inaction.
"Despite multiple demands and repeated verbal follow-ups with the District Programme Coordinator (DPC), Ukhrul, to release the pending MC,our pleas have fallen on deaf ears," said Leishishang.
He said that although labour components and administrative approval for works have been sanctioned, the delay in disbursing the Material Cost has severely impacted ongoing and planned development projects.
This has greatly affected job card holders, as we are unable to continue work due to non-procurement of the material that are required for construction works, which in turn delays the mandated 100 days of guaranteed wage employment, added Leishishang He added that such prolonged delays violate the MGNREGA provisions, and any misappropriation or diversion of the MC funds must be investigated, and those found responsible must face disciplinary action.
The association has urged the authorities to release the pending funds within 30 days, foiling which will compel them to initiate legal proceedings to safeguard the rights and livelihoods of rural workers.
