Kyamgei (PICK) and All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup (AKNCTL) demanded that the Manipur Govemment implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) prior to any census, citing the State's precarious law and order as a major barrier.
In a press release, PICK and AKNCTL expressed no opposition to a census for public welfare but highlighted challenges including internally displaced'persons, community movement restrictions, national highway blockades, and a large-scale illegal influx from Myanmar and Bangladesh.
The groups warned that conducting the census now amid these issues could deliberately.
undermine Manipur's indigenous population, a long-standing public fear.
The groups urged the Government to expedite the NRC process, warning that delays could lead to outsiders dominating Manipur's politics, economy, and social fabric.
PICK and AKNCTL urged the State Government to seek Centre's deferral of census till peace returns and NRC identifies illegal immigrants, pledging full backing to the Campaign for Judge and Fear Delimitation (JFD) movement.
