Clean image, integrity must for politicians: Karam Shyam

Imphal, September 13 2026: Langthabal AC MLA Karam Shyam has said that a clean image, integrity, humanity and above all, protecting public rights are the essential qualities of a politician.

He was speaking at a political interaction with women of eight polling stations of Chajing held this morning at Lilong Chajing Mairenkhong Community Hall.

"Public representatives are elected by the people by entrusting their rights to them.

Therefore, protecting the rights of the people is the most important responsibility of a politician", Karam Shyam said.

Asserting that he has never compromised on this principle, he said he has not done any work that harms public interests in his political career spanning nearly two decades and will never do so in future.

He asserted that not a single grain of rice meant for the public has been misappropriated during his tenure.

At the same time, he expressed concern over complaints that some FPS agents misbehave with beneficiaries, using indecent and high-handed language while distributing rice.

In the present situation in Manipur, such behaviour is very unfortunate and must not be repeated, he said.

Listing his initiatives, Karam Shyam said, "Since becoming a public representative, I have been contributing half of my monthly salary to help people in distress.

I have donated Rs 120 lakh to support the education of children who have lost their father or have been abandoned.

I have equally distributed my MLA LADF among all 40 polling stations for development works".

The MLA continued that he had also provided around Rs 70 lakh as interest-free loans to help local youth become self-reliant.

The initiative could not succeed due to the prevailing situation in the State, but efforts are on to revive it, he said.

Karam Shyam further said that politics in Lilong Chajing is the dirtiest, with false propaganda being spread and drugs and alcohol being distributed to youth in the name of mobilising people.

"If this does not stop, we will have no future.

If you want to do politics, help the people and learn to work for them", he said.

BJP Langthabal Mandal president L Bhumeshor, BJP Mahila Morcha Langthabal Mandal president M Indulata Devi and representatives of eight polling stations of Chajing attended the meeting as presidium members.
