Thang-Ta is Manipur's global identity, must be preserved: Keirao MLA

Keirao Assembly Constituency MLA Lourembam Rameshwar has called upon all to take collective responsibility for preserving Thang-Ta, the inseparable identity of Manipur recognised globally.
He was speaking at the 13th Foundation Day celebration of Eastern Arts and Cultural Foundation, Manipur, held at its hall at Arapati, Imphal East on Friday.
The programme also marked the closing of a 20-day Workshop cum Production on Chungoi Marol organised by the Eastern Arts and Cultural Foundation under the Guru-Shishya Parampara (Repertory Grant) Scheme of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The function was attended by Foundation president Mayanglambam Manihar, K Sanatomba and several others.
Lourembam Rameshwar said Thang-Ta along with Sagol Kangjei and other art and culture forms give Manipur its identity to the world.
In many historic battles in the State, Thang-Ta proved decisive, defeating powerful armies with only Thang-Ta and ponies.
Efforts to promote Thang-Ta is a bounden duty of everyone, he said.
He said preserving Thang-Ta should not depend on someone else.
Thang-Ta practitioners not only preserve martial traditions but also impart social values, discipline and healthy eating habits, keeping away from harmful foods, he added.
The MLA urged all to uphold Thang-Ta which has been intertwined with Manipuri society since time immemorial.
