Tronglaobi tragedy: Protests, road blockades continue

As the State continues to reel in the aftermath of the Tronglaobi bomb attack and killing of unarmed civilians in CRPF firing, Ningthoukhong Protection Committee (NPC) and Ching-Tam Liching Lup (CTLL) jointly organised a sit-in protest at Ningthoukhong Keithel today.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, CTLL president and NPC general secretary Moirangthem Rajen demanded strict action against the "Kuki narco terrorists" behind the bomb attack and the CRPF jawans responsible for the deaths of three civilians and multiple injuries.
Calling for an end to the India Government's alleged "proxy war", he urged the State Government to avoid sending in new Central troops to replace the Central Security Forces and instead demanded the deployment of State Forces.

If these demands are not fulfilled, he asserted that both NPC and CTLL will be at the forefront in support of any ensuing public resolutions.
The sit-in protest was attended by volunteers of NPC and CTLL, Kabui populace from Sadu village and locals from the area.
The protesters shouted numerous slogans such- "No census exercise before NRC implementation", "Stop killing civilians and indigenous people", "We condemn India Government's biased governance", "Withdraw Central Security Forces from Manipur" among others.
Additionally, YSDO, YDO and the IDPs of the Prefabricated House Relief Camp at Kwakta Sericulture Farm staged a sit-in protest near Kwakta Turel.
Accompanied by scores of children, the Moirang Thana Leikai Apunba Nupi Lup staged another protest at Moirang Thana Leikai market shed.
Separately, the cease work protest and road blockade launched on April 7 following the Tronglaobi killings continued in many parts of Moirang Assembly Constituency today.
At Phubala, the local populace stepped out of their homes and blocked the Tiddim Road with various articles including bamboo and tree branches.
At Sunusiphai, the locals carried out a similar blockade at Sunusiphai Thongthak Road.
Road blockades were also seen in Moirang Lamkhai after the mass rally concluded around 1:30 pm.
Similar scenes of tree branches blocking roads and tyres set alight were witnessed at Moirang Keithel, Tronglaobi and Terakhongshangbi.
In Thoubal district, Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi (HAMP) organised a sit-in protest at Heirok Bazar today.
Condemning the tragic killings of two children at Tronglaobi, Khundongbam (O) Gunamani Leima, advisor, Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi, called for the resignation of Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh if the Government is unable to deliver justice.
Reacting to the Chief Minister's statement regarding movement along the highways, she challenged him to travel to Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Moreh without any security escort.
The protesters wielded placards with messages such as "Save the lives of innocent children, punish the killers", "Uproot Kuki terrorists from Manipur" etc and shouted various slogans condemning the Tronglaobi bomb attack of April 7 .
Later, a candlelight vigil was held at Heirok Keithel with huge public participation and prayers were offered for the deceased souls to rest in peace.
Meanwhile, Uyal Apunba Clubs and Meira Paibi also organised a demonstration at Uyal Laikol Lampak while raising many slogans.
Uyal Apunba Meira Paibi leader Thangjam Redia strongly condemned the tragic incident and declared that innocent lives cannot be bartered with money.
