Imphal, June 10 2013:
MLA of Saikul A/C Yamthong Haokip has categorically stated that Inner Line Permit (ILP) System is the only means to safeguard the rights of indigenous people and prevent huge influx of non-locals into the State.
He was talking to some media persons on the sideline of inspecting the deplorable condition of the 12 km long road connecting Saikul and Sapermeina under his constituency today.
Yamthong further said that unrestrained influx of non-locals to the State has posed serious threats to the indigenous people not only by changing the demographic pattern, but also securing dominance in all spheres.
The population of non-locals has even exceeded the population of tribal people in the State, he noted.

"So, I fully endorse the demand for Inner Line Permit System.
This system should also be implemented in Manipur like other northeastern states of Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh", the MLA said.
He also maintained that the State Assembly has taken a resolution to press the Centre for the implementation of ILP.
The State government is still making efforts to convince the Central leaders on ILP issue, it would require an assent from the Centre to implement ILP System in the State.
He further encouraged the people to join hands in making the movement for ILP successful in the State.
