76th birth anniversary of Chana Lukhoi marked with reverence

The 76th birth anniversary of renowned writer Chana Lukhoi was marked with reverence today at Nungsikol Park in Lamlai Assembly Constituency.
The event, organized by the Chana Lukhoi Art Center, was attended by several dignitaries, including Colonel Takhenchangbam Robindro Sharma as the chief guest and Wahengbam Hemabati, retired Principal of Bishnupur Higher Secondary School, as the special guest.
Chana Lembi, chairperson of the Chana Lukhoi Art Center, presided over the function.
The celebration's highlight was a poignant tribute to Chana Lukhoi, with flowers and garlands offered at his statue within the park.
Students from the Chana Lukhoi Art Centre performed traditional rituals, adding a touch of reverence to the event.
The day also featured a poetry recitation session, where local poets shared their works, filling the air with words of inspiration and cultural pride.
In his address, Colonel Robindro Sharma emphasised the need to honour local heroes, saying, "Just as we celebrate global icons, we must remember our own community heroes to preserve our heritage".
He stressed that observing remembrance functions for local legends keeps their legacy alive.
Chana Lukhoi, a renowned Sumang Lila writer and global ambassador for the Sanamahi faith, was celebrated for his outstanding contributions to Meitei Puyas and traditional Manipuri theatre, earning him numerous accolades.
