Imphal, April 07 2013 : People who are more interested in bandhs/blockades and people who abuse drugs and do not respect women can never be true Christians or genuine believers of lord Jesus Christ.

This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam at the 4th foundation day of Manipur Police Christian Church held at Langol today.

Gaikhangam who is also in charge of Home Department expressed strong displeasure at the number of anti-social and inhuman acts committed by people who have adopted Christianity.

Remarking that a man who does not have faith in religion is as good as dead, Gaikhangam stated that the world be much more lovelier if every person acts and behaves by keeping in mind the tenets and principles of their own religions.

Incidentally, Gaikhangam once worked as a church chowkidar.

Underscoring the importance of being dutiful and benevolent on the part of each and every police men, the Home Minister announced that religious leaders would be inducted into Manipur as is done in the Army in order to make all police personnel more humane and religious.

There is no rule that police men should take alcohol.

If Manipur Police can work with a little more discipline and integrity, they would certainly become one of the best police force in the world, Gaikhangam asserted.

He further narrated that his own father was killed when he was just five years old.

But the killer was forgiven by his mother and elder sister-in-law.

Further, his mother always asked him not to harbour any intention of avenging for his father.

In the aftermath of the Naga-Kuki ethnic violence, a reconciliation meeting was held at Kangpokpi, Gaikhangam impressed the gathering by eating a single piece of pork even though he had never taken meat all his life.

He called upon all Christians to take more pro-active roles in bringing peace and progressive change in the State.

He also asked security forces to change their strategy.
