Thoubal, January 07 2026:
The Meitei Joint Coordinating Committee (MCJCC), an umbrella body of various clubs and organisations of Waithou, Kiyam, Kiyam Siphai, Haokha and Thoubal Khunou, has warned of launching a mass public agitation if the Waithou Water Supply Scheme fails to resume normal water supply to consumers by January 9 .
Addressing a press conference at Babu Bazar in the presence of affected consumers and MCJCC members, MCJCC treasurer Kh Inaocha said that water supply under the Waithou Water Supply Scheme has remained disrupted since December 24, 2025 .
As a result, he said, many consumers dependent on the scheme have been severely affected.
Inaocha said that to address the plight of the people, written complaints were submitted on December 29, 2025, to the Executive Engineer, PHED Thoubal, and the Executive Engineer, Monitoring and Evaluation PHED Thoubal on December 29, 2025, and even on Tuesday to the Deputy Commissioner of Thoubal.
However, no concrete steps have been taken so far to resolve the crisis, he added.
Highlighting acute shortage of water in the region, with people unable to draw water from the Thoubal river, and lakes, ponds and other water sources drying up due to the winter season, he said the residents are facing severe inconvenience due to shortages of water.
He warned that if normal water supply is not restored by January 9, the MCJCC, along with the consumers, will launch a mass public agitation from January 10 .
It may be recalled that the Waithou Water Supply Scheme was locked on December 24 by the Waithou Executive Youth Association (WEYA) and Waithou Apunba Meira Paibi as part of a protest demanding water connections for five villages of Waithou area.
