Silkworm rearing techniques organised

Imphal, August 05 2025:
An awareness programme on silkworm rearing techniques was organised by the Regional Sericultural Research Station, Imphal at Andro, Imphal East, today.
The programme was organised as part of sericulture technology transfer campaign (Mera Resham Mera Abhiman) of the Central Silk Board of Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
Addressing the function, Sericulture Director Asem Robertson said that Manipur has potential in sericulture and the Central Silk Board has been extending all support to farmers engaged in sericulture.
He said that the Regional Sericultural Research Station in Imphal has been undertaking various initiatives to further develop sericulture in Manipur and provide scientific knowledge to farmers.
Robertson also said that the Government is working to increase the income of silkworm farmers by giving them training on optimal silkworm feeding and breeding techniques.
He said that the previous silkworm project, known as the Japan Project, implemented in Manipur had failed, and advised the people to learn from past mistakes to make the ongoing silkworm project successful.
Dr S Subharani who is the Head of Regional Sericultural Research Station, Imphal also attended the programme.
She said that the Government is aiming to produce 44,000 metric ton of sericulture products in 2025-26 .
She emphasized that implementing scientific techniques in the field and diligent efforts from farmers are essential in achieving the target.
District Sericulture Officer, Imphal East Kh Pratima Devi also attended the programme among others.
