MHGEWA warns of launching mass agitation over pending demands

The Manipur Home Guard Employees' Welfare Association (MHGEWA) has warned of launching mass agitation/indefinite hunger strike if the long-pending demands of Home Guard personnel are not materialized by September 30.Briefing media persons today at Luwangsangbam, MHGEWA president Y Mangi said that since 2021, the association has been demanding an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) from the current 14 percent to 39 percent, along with ration money benefits.
"Despite several representations to the authorities, no concrete action has been taken till date", said Y Mangi while adding that the demands are legitimate and long-overdue.
He lamented that Home Guard personnel have been consistently neglected and deprived of their entitled allowances on time.
He also shared that the annual general body meeting of MHGEWA will be held on September 14, where a resolution will be taken on the next line of action for the long-pending demands of Home Guard personnels.
Y Mangi further shared that an ultimatum was submitted to the Governor today seeking his favorable consideration over the issue.
In the ultimatum, MHGEWA listed the long pending demand of Home Guard personnel such as-
To finalize seniority lists of Home Guards and avoid stagnancy in promotion;
To frame Guidelines or Rules for promotion of all ranks;
To enhance DA corresponding to the minimum pay of a police constable from time to time as per Supreme Court's Judgment & Order;
To extend the benefit of Ration Money allowances;
To disburse monthly duty allowances within 1 week or 10th day of every month as done in case of other State Government Employees;
To appoint a separate & full-time Commandant General, Home Guards, Manipur;
To abolish unpaid rank structure;
To enhance the age of superannuation upto 62 or 65;
To fill up clear vacancies of Home Guards;
To increase authorized sanction strength of Home Guards to 3394;
and to formulate a scheme for payment of a pension or like benefits or any other financial assistant as deemed fit & proper for the retired Home Guards personnel.
