The 40th National Eye Donation Fortnight 2025 was observed today at THAU Ground, Thangmeiband, Imphal West district on the theme, "Everyday Heroes".
The event was organised by the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment Manipur (NPCB&VI), National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur in collaboration with the Directorate of Health Services, Manipur.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shugeta said that despite the establishment of an eye bank in Manipur, the percentage of eye donation is very low in the State due to several factors like public ignorance about the process, deeply rooted cultural and religious misconceptions, and family objections to the idea of eye donation.
She also stressed on the importance of eye donation and expressed the need to develop a desire for eye donation in every individual.
"By choosing to donate your eye, you can give someone the precious gift of sight or help with important medical research", she added.
As part of the event, a Free Eye Screening Camp was also conducted.
