Imphal, August 21 2018:
Endorsing the demand of JAC AMTUC & AMGEO to translate the 22-point charter of demands into action and implement 7th Pay together with arrears on Fitment factor 3.68 with effect from January 1, 2016, Pensioners in the State Manipur and Family Pensioners staged a sit in protest at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall today.
The agitation of JAC AMTUC & AMGEO in connection with 7th Pay entered its 154th day today.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest, Bharat Pensioner Samaj Manipur finance secretary Naorem Achou Singh stated that the protest was inevitable and necessary as 7th Pay has been implemented at all the States in the country except Manipur.
JAC of AMTUC & AMGEO secretary general Laitonj am Biken stated that the JAC has been denying several requests from the State Government to hold meetings and discuss the matter until the Govt revokes the arrest warrant and show cause notice of JAC functionaries.
However, after dropping all the charges, a meeting between the State Govt officials led by Chief Secretary and a 15 member JAC was held on August 10.During the meeting, the JAC opposed the order issued by Principal Secretary (Finance) on July 28 and demanded the implementation of 7th Pay together with arrears with effect from January 1, 2016 on Fitment factor 3.68 for every employee, pensioners and family pensioners in the State.
The JAC put forward major points of the 22-point charter of demands and to implement them at the earliest.
L Biken further stated that it was decided to hold a second meeting on August 18 at 3 pm, in order to discuss the demands addressed during the first meeting.
Unfortunately, the meeting has been put on hold following the sudden demise of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee which resulted in the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and other officials remaining out of station.
Claiming, that the CM and other officials reportedly returned yesterday, he urged the State Government to schedule a date for the second meeting to bring an amicable solution to the demands of the JAC at the earliest.
