Flood, landslide victims stage rally demanding release of relief packages
Three years on, many are still deprived of relief/compensation packages under IAY Housing Scheme

Flood Victim Demand Committee (FVDC) Chandel in collaboration with Village Chiefs of Chandel today organised a mass rally at Chandel District Headquarters against delay in release of compensation packages under IAY Housing Scheme Special Package sanctioned by the Centre to flood/landslide affected victims of 2015 in Chandel district.
Large numbers of people took out the rally from Indoor Stadium Chandel and proceeded toward the Office of Deputy Commissioner Chandel holding placards and raising slogans against the State and Central Government.
The special package was sanction by the Central Government to reconstruct houses and rehabilitate the victims who were affected by the flood/landslide that occurred in August-September, 2015 .
It may be noted that the Flood Victim Demand Committee has claimed that out of the 1,225 beneficiaries (victims), only 226 have got the final payment, while 979 are still waiting final payment.
Surprisingly, 20 beneficiaries are still waiting for the first payment.
"20 of the beneficiaries have not got anything so far," said convenor of the committee BD Betha at the rally today.
"It has been 3 years since the flood/landslide.
Such delay in providing relief packages to the people show the apathy and carelessness of the State and Central Government," he said.
During the rally, the flood/ landslide affected victims and their representatives submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister, Works Minister, YAS & Water Resources Minister, Chief Secretary and Union Home Minister via Deputy Commissioner, Chandel Krishna Kumar.
The committee in its memorandum cautioned that State Government that it will launch intense agitations if Government failed to release the pending packages within one week.
It will resort to blockade of section of National Highway- Moreh to Chandel, warned the committee.
Earlier on August 18, the beneficiaries had organised a sit-in-protest at Chakpikarong Bazar.
A memorandum addressed to the Governor Dr Najma Heptulla, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Ministry of Rural Development Krishi Bhavan New Delhi BC Behera Director (RH), YAS and IFC Minister Letpao Haokip, Work Minister, PR & RD Th Biswajit and Chief Secretary Suresh Babu was submitted through DC Chandel.
